Rock the Earth works closely with the music
industry and its fans, many of whom are concerned with the fate of our public
lands, air and water. We act as advocates to ensure the existence of a sustainable
and healthy environment for all.
Further, we aim to represent those individuals
and communities whose environment or natural surroundings are directly and adversely
affected by the actions of others. Rock the Earth, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit,
national public interest environmental advocacy organization, is committed to
protecting and defending America's natural resources through partnerships
with the music industry and the world-wide environmental community.
Rock the Earth is dedicated to bringing
about positive and beneficial environmental consequences on behalf of members
of the music industry through the means of active litigation and negotiation.

Set Change for Rock the Earth |

Tuesday, 30 December 2008 |
In 2001, while standing at a concert in the shadow of Mount Shasta, I had a
vision of an environmental advocacy organization of, by and for the music
community. An organization of environmental professionals and activists which
could not only serve the needs of the music community, but could leverage the
power and platform of musicians, providing competent, effective and pragmatic
environmental counsel to support communities being bypassed by mainstream
environmental groups; a vehicle for environmental education, activation and
change. MORE>

This week, RtE took its next step to help clean
up the cruise industry by sending over 300 letters to artists, promoters and
music cruise producers, outlining the damaging impacts from cruise ships and
offering our assistance to help facilitate greater responsibility on the part
of cruise ship operators. It is our hope
that with added pressure, cruise ship companies will implement operational
changes that result in greater environmental protection and ecosystem sustainability. To read a sample letter sent to artists and
promoters, go here .

|
Friday, 21 November 2008 |
In a last minute attempt by the Bush Administration to give one last give-away to the mining industry, the Office of Surface Mining has proposed making Mountain Top Mining permanently legal. This week, Rock the Earth opposed the proposed regulations to permanently legalize this destructive practice. Our letter to the EPA/OSM can be found here .
